Overview
Gold Works is a residential construction and home improvements business in Exeter, run by people with hands-on trade experience. Kitchens, loft conversions, bathrooms, extensions, restorations and external works. Charged Studio built their first website when they still traded as Gold Recruitment, and rebuilt it when the name changed.
The brief
Homeowners choosing a builder for a kitchen or an extension are making a big, nervous decision, and they judge fast. A thin website costs the job before a conversation starts. The site had to earn trust quickly, make six different services easy to tell apart, show real work, and give a homeowner one obvious way to ask for a quote.
A new name, a bigger site
The old name said recruitment. The business builds homes. So it became Gold Works, and the website had to carry that change without losing what the old name had earned.
The first site was one long page. It did the job at launch, but six services, a portfolio, a hiring route and a quote form do not fit on one page without something getting buried. The new site gives each of them room: Services, Our work, About, Work with us and Contact, each with a job of its own.
What we built
A name change, done in the open
The About page says it plainly: Gold Recruitment is now Gold Works, the same business under a name that matches the work. Nobody who knew the old name is left wondering.
Reviews that kept their history
Every review was left word for word and labelled as received under the previous name. The proof carried over to the new name instead of being quietly rewritten.
Six services, six ways in
Kitchens, loft conversions, bathrooms, extensions, restorations and external works each get a section of their own, linked straight from the homepage.
A form that asks the right things
The project form asks for the service, the postcode, how far along the plans are and when they want to start, so the first phone call starts informed.
A separate door for tradespeople
Work with us has its own form for trades and collaborators, so people looking for work never end up in the same inbox as customers asking for a quote.
Real photography
The Our work page shows the firm's own photographs of finished rooms and builds in progress. No stock images of someone else's kitchen.

Six services, one grid, each a tap away from its own section.
The design approach
The gold in the name became the accent, on a near-black ground that lets photographs of finished rooms carry the page. The headline stayed from the first site, because it was already right: Built right. Every time. It now sets in a clean sans with an italic serif for the second line, which reads as a craftsman's finish rather than a builder's leaflet.

Where it started
The first site, under the Gold Recruitment name, was a single page built to get a hands-on trades business online properly. At launch it scored a perfect 100 across Performance, Accessibility, Best Practices and SEO on Google PageSpeed Insights.

Outcome
Gold Works now has a name that says what it does and a website with room for all of it. Each service has a place, the reviews came with them, and the people who want a quote and the people who want work each have their own way in.
